Power On.Masti On

The day has finally arrived.

No, i am not talking about pongal. For me festivals
like pongal are nothing but dreaded affairs where every
local tamil channels resort to ultimate torture throughout
the day in the name of
and where every tom, dick and harry in tamil filmdom
get to share with us about their pongal celebrations on TV.
Honestly i dont give a hoot about how they celebrate or
not celebrate pongal.

Anyways coming back to the "day", today is the REL Power
IPO opening, touted as the biggest indian IPO ever, until i.e
till the next IPO comes. There is a mad rush across the country
to apply for this IPO and according to NDTV Profit there is a
sudden surge of demat account openings in anticipation of this
gala IPO. I have applied for 15 lots and praying to get atleast 1.
I am sure ADA bhai is going to make a big forture in this IPO,
but as long as the investors are happy and making money ADA
becoming rich by a few lakh crores should not bother anyone.

crocodile snacks

I was idly browsing and came across this stunning picture !!

At first i thought this is a clever CGI work but apparently this
looks like a real story. This happened in a taiwan zoo when a
vet was asked to look into appetite issue of a rather large nile
croc. When the vet put his hand into the bar to give a tranquilizer
the croc's appetite suddenly returned and it snapped his arm
(mistaken for afternoon snacks perhaps).
The poor guy fainted immediately and was rushed to the hospital.
Just when the croc "aaramse" sat down to have its snack which
walked right into its mouth, alert zoo keepers tried to shoot it and
the croc sensing its survival in danger ran for cover dropping its
tit-bit.

Anyway alls well that ends well, the arm was retrieved, cleaned
and was reattached with the vet again who seems to be happy to
be back in one piece

Speaking of giant crocs there is this man-eating beast in burundi
called "gustave" which weighs a ton and is 6 m long. It is still not
yet captured as bullets are unable to pierce its thick skin and in
fact it is characterized by bullet marks (கொசுக் கடி). It seems
that this guy swim up and down stream along lake tanganyika
and devours fisherman and bathers en route.
The movie "Primeval" is based on this guy. A youtube video is
also dedicated to this guy. Looks cute in the video though ;)

OM NAMO NARAYANA

Installed e-kalappai today.

I am a big fan of eminent tamil writer Sujatha a.k.a
Rangarajan and regularly make it a point to follow
up on his "வாரம் ஒரு பாசுரம்" in the tamil
magazine "கல்கி" , where he takes up a single
prabhandham from "நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தம்"
and explains its nuances in layman terms.

After a brief hiatus he started off again last week and
the prabhandham in question is sung by
This is what he sings

"நா வாயில் உண்டே நமோ நாராயணா என்றூ
ஓவாது உரைக்கும் உரை உண்டே - மூவாத
மாக் கதிக் கண் செல்லும் வகை உண்டே; என் - ஒருவர்
தீக் கதிக் கண் செல்லும் திறம்?"

நா -Tongue
Incessant
Moksha
Type

What this implies is that we use our tongue for so
many useless talk and jibberish leading to conflicts
, complications and often disastrous situations. Instead
why dont we properly utilise our tongue and chant
"Om Namo Narayana". Atleast

Finally sujatha says that we will not do this preferring
to do idle chat and வம்புச் சண்டை.
He cannot be more right...

Racism and south india

Having made the resolution i dont need to think a lot
to start off blogging. Just tune on to any one of the
countless 24/7 news channel in india and you will know
that the latest buzzwords in this part of the world are
"racism", "monkeygate" or is it "maa ki gate"!!, thanks
to the recent events at SCG.

In the past week every cricketer who has set foot on
the field was given a chance to air their opinion and
enjoyed their 5 secs of fame. What with india celebrating
(albeit in anger) bogey pongal by uruva erippu of the
"ugly aussies", bucknor, procter, benson and almost
every phirangh cricketer, i felt that as a law abiding,
patriotic citizen concerned abt the so called "nation's
integrity" at stake i am entitled to my 2 cents.

I for one feel we dont need to be aggrieved (esp the south
indians) by this so called thing of the pot calling the kettle
black as racist tendencies are subconsiously imbibed in us.

How often we have compared our colour with those north
of the vindhyas?
"Intha settu pasangallukkunne oru colour engenthu varadhunnu
theriyala".

In fact kollywood's import of "vellai thol" failed actresses from
bollywood has surpassed the trade deficit between U.S and china

Even the makers of "sivaji" went to a great extent in white
washing the movie's hero such that he appears more fairer than
the heroine.

Take the case of normal south indian household searching for
a bride or bridegroom. What will be the most common questions
for marriage in 9 out of 10 cases?

"Ponnu nalla colour a irukkanum." "Payyan seppa iruppana?"

"Ponnu nalla seppa kiliyattum iruppa"..this is bride's mother
"Payyan nalla seppa raja maathiri iruppan"..this is bridegroom's

Marriage fixed purely on the basis of the amount of pigmentation
in our body

In fact during this entire "monkeygate" episode all the south
indian channels esp the tamil channels were oblivious of the
whole issue and "etho eruma maattu mela mazha penjha maathiri"
went on about their usual businesses of maanada mayilada,
thillana thillana, kolangal, arasi, old melodies, new melodies,
etc etc

Do we need more proof that southies really dont care abt racism
and take the colour issue in their stride ?

Come on guys wake up, racism is here to stay and it is strong as
ever. Any attempt of making the world believe that we are
victims of racism...well who is the hypocrite here ..

New year resolution

I generally dont make any new year resolutions because i know
that i cannot implement one, simply because i am too lazy in doing
anything that needs movement of limbs. I generally need a whiff
of inspiration to get me doing anything worthwhile. One such
inspiration suddenly came last week out of nowhere, that i should
continue on my blogging which i left abruptly after one lennngthy
piece on ahobilam last january.
So here's my year resolution taken abt 5 mins back.
I will "try to" blog regularly this year
